I’ve heard it said, especially by authors, that they don’t want or need to give away their talents free by putting them on a blog. Those same people will often balk at my prices, wanting me to give them something for free, anyway — they are offended by the idea of giving away information free to blog visitors. I maintain that when people visit a blog, or a website, the information on the site isn’t really free. Usually you want something in exchange.

When I write a blog post I am hoping to get a new client, a newsletter sign up, or a new fan. I’m not doing it free. But what I’m also not doing is paying a lot of money for advertisements, either on Google, or on Facebook, or via other websites. Most of my business comes from my blogs, social media, or word of mouth. I’ve never got one client from using paid advertisements. Not one. That does not mean it won’t work for someone else, but I know the time I spend on a blog post, and what I get in return for each blog post is worth far more than I’d spend on advertisements.

I challenge those who are anti-blogging to post a targeted appropriate blog a day, for a month and see how your life changes.
